Camp Discovery activities

We offer classic summer camp activities, with emotional and medical support tailored for kids ages 8-16 with chronic skin conditions. Camp is about being active and having fun, so we find ways for everyone to participate.

AAD Camp Discovery

What will you do at camp?

Camp Discovery is held at different locations throughout the summer, to make it easier for campers to participate. Each of our locations provides a similar experience, but they also provide some unique activities. For example, our Minnesota camp is built on a lake, which gives us additional opportunities for activities on the water.

Adventure on the ropes, trails, and water

Athletic activities may include archery, hiking and nature walks, and rope courses. Some of our campers learn to fish and paddle a canoe. Some even try out ziplines or the rock-climbing wall!

Teamwork, laughter, and friendly competition

We also like to move by playing games. We might play familiar games like capture the flag or a scavenger hunt. We also could play newer games, like Jenga Giant or human foosball.

Creativity through arts and crafts

Sometimes we have fun making tie-dye clothing, friendship bracelets, dreamcatchers, and similar crafts. Crafting encourages natural conversation and bonding, while creating mementos of our time at camp.

Splash into summer fun

We also spend part of each day near the water, either at the pool or by the lake. Our campers are free to enjoy the water with their new friends.

Kids and volunteers show off their dance moves for a talent show.

Campers shine on the small stage

The week at Camp Discovery concludes with a talent show. Each group of kids contributes to the show with skits and other performances. Many of our campers perform individually too. We’ve seen all kinds of talent, from karaoke to violin to dancing to magic.
